Oceanside Palliative and Bereavement Support - Qualicum Beach

Supports the social and psychological needs and choices of clients and families facing end of life issues, in their homes, in care facilities and in the hospital.
Grief Support: One of the Bereavement Coordinators will work one-to-one with clients to help support them with in their grief. If traumatic grief is experienced, a referral may be made to a clinical counsellor.

Grief In Common Support Group: A weekly group for bereaved individuals navigating the grief process. This group provides a safe and supportive space that allows participants to share their experiences, feelings and challenges around their loss while gaining important grief information/education. Facilitated by a grief support coordinator and a trained volunteer, and guided by the group’s needs. Once registered, this group meets weekly for six weeks.

New Beginnings Support Group: A weekly group for people who have experienced the death of a spouse/partner within the past year. This group allows participants to share their experiences, feelings and challenges around the loss and what they now face while learning to integrate their loss into their life. Facilitated by a grief support coordinator & a trained volunteer and guided by the group’s needs.

Walking Group: Open to anyone who has experienced the death of someone significant. A time to walk and talk at a relaxed pace with others who are grieving, share ideas and support while benefitting from some fresh air and exercise. Joining in on the walk are trained caring volunteers to provide a listening ear. Once registered, people can attend on a drop-in basis. The group meets every Tuesday at 10:00 AM.

Equipment Loan: Offers a variety of medical equipment to allow palliative patients to stay comfortably in their own homes. (E.g., beds, walkers, commodes, wheelchairs, bath chairs, over-bed tables, etc.)

Restorative Care: On Mondays and Fridays, volunteers with specialized training in Healing Touch and Reiki, offer these gentle, healing and restorative treatments to palliative clients, caregivers, and the bereaved. Once registered, clients are permitted six sessions.

1:1 Companioning: Trained volunteers are paired with clients to lend an ear during this challenging time.

Palliative Vigil Team: Volunteers are available to sit at the bedside of individuals in long-term care facilities during their last days/hours if requested by the family or nursing staff.
