Mental Health and Substance Use Services - Central Island Access

Provided by Island Health

Provides a range of health care and support services for people of all ages with mental health and substance use issues
Access Services provides crisis response & counselling, emergency services, and connects to mental health and substance use hospital, community treatment and recovery services for all age groups. This service includes the Walk-in Crisis Counselling Clinic that provides services to all ages as well as an Intake service that provides referrals and resources to individuals 19 years of age or older.

Also offers:
  • Crisis Counselling Clinic offers single session crisis counselling. No appointment is necessary. Services are offered to all ages free of charge
  • Crisis Response Team: This team provides rapid, mobile, community-based response to all age groups including children, youth and families in crisis.


Nanaimo Mental Health and Substance Use is now providing home withdrawal management service through the Substance Use Services outreach (SUSO) team. This service will be available for individuals with Alcohol Use Disorder, Opiate Use Disorder, or Stimulant Use Disorder and is intended to support individuals with mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms and low risk of withdrawal-related complications.
