Therapeutic Education Program

Provided by Nanaimo Unique Kids Organization (NUKO)

A specialized educational service designed to support children and youth with neurodiverse needs who may not thrive in traditional public school settings.
NUKO’s Therapeutic Education program is dedicated to delivering an exceptional experience for all students enrolled. This enables NUKO to offer a high-quality alternative for those who may not thrive in a conventional setting.

Regular Therapeutic Education Program:
  • Features small classroom sizes and 3:1 student-to-adult ratio, this program ensures that each student receives individualized attention and support.
  • Provides a structured environment for academic support, positive behavior guidance, and life skills training.
  • Fosters social and emotional growth in a sensory-sensitive setting, recognizing the diverse needs of students.
  • Operational from Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm during SD68 school days
Beyond academic support, students engage in enriching activities such as swimming, library visits, and field trips. This holistic approach fosters success while nurturing essential life skills, helping students build meaningful connections within their community.

Modified Therapeutic Education Program:
  • Designed to cater to the specific needs of students requiring more individualized support, offering a flexible and adaptive learning environment. In recognizing that daily attendance can be challenging for some students, the program embraces a tailored approach where attendance can range from 10 to 20 hours per week, providing a customized solution that aligns with each student’s unique circumstances.
  • Every student benefits from the dedicated support of a one-to-one staff member and a highly skilled Behavior Consultant.
  • Individualized programs that addresses a spectrum of needs, encompassing communication, academics, social skills, and essential life skills.
  • Flexibility is a key feature, allowing students to work in various settings, including small group environments, quiet rooms, or a combination of both.
The goal is not only to address academic challenges but also to nurture overall growth and development. By providing the right resources, support systems, and learning environments, NUKO strives to empower students in this program to reach their full potential, fostering an atmosphere where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
