Youth to Adult Transition program - Helping youth prepare for independent living

Provided by John Howard Society - North Island

The program supports youth aged 16-19 by helping them explore alternative living options when they cannot remain at home. It also assists in building essential life skills to help them live independently and successfully on their own.
The Independent Living program workers help youth identify funding support, locate safe and affordable housing, connect youth to community resources, develop plans for educational success, search for employment, get an ID, and help develop life skills for independent living.

The program will work with youth on an individual basis to identify goals and develop a plan for independence. Family may be involved as appropriate.

Potential clients can call or drop by the office to set up an appointment with the Independent Living Worker. Youth can also ask their school counsellor to help them arrange a meeting with the Independent Living Worker at their school.
